This week I was introduced into design patterns. At first I was a little confused between design and visual creation, but The Vignelli Canon helped cleared that up for me. I didn’t realize that different types of patters like rhythm, form and symbols can drastically change the viewer’s perception of an object.
Watching Blade Runner was a blast. I didn’t expect to be so many design elements in there.
Taking pictures around campus was fun. But, it was very difficult to describe what type of design pattern I was looking at. I guess need read more on that for research.
I create lots of fun daily creates and Design Assignments. My favorite was wearing your own food and creating a logo of another competitor.
Copyright is very important to understand. It illustrates how it can beneficial to the creator of mediums, but, at the same time can violate many rights of innocent people who simply want to express their own version of the medium.
Glad Week 5 is over with. Onward and upwards!
Design Technique: Dominance
I took a picture of outside while it was getting dark. In the picture it looks like the entire environment was blending together into one “hazy” view. I consider this to be the type Dominance. The reason because mine and probably your initial view of the center of the picture. To me it looks like a portal or an eye opening up in the sky. And reality begins to “shake” in fear in whats to come.
One/Story Four Pics – (3 Stars)
I chose these four pictures to represent the main critical points in Marcus’s road to redemption. The first icon represents Marcus’s depression. Good portion of his struggle was getting over his self-esteem. The second picture represents his is trip to vegas. Gambling was his way to cope with his situation. The third picture is Marcus’s long road to recovery. More on this will be revealed. The last picture is the conclusion, Marcus finally finds peace.
A Wolf In Sheeps Clothing – (3 Stars)
Everyone seems to rave about how great Chipotle is. And its much healthier than Taco Bell…right? But what if Chipotle was really run by Taco Bell, just so they can create that illusion. Mind Blowing isn’t?
To create this logo, I had to get original copy of the logo of Chipotle. I had first clear out the word Chipotle. Then I had to paint the background with the same red color. Once that was done, I created the Taco Bell font with the same white color and paste into the logo. The reason changed this logo because I love Taco Bell, but I also enjoy Chipotle. So I found assignment particularly interesting…
Design Assignments – Truthful Movie Poster – (3 stars)
The Hunger Games movie is one of my favorite movies. It has a great plot, fantastic characters and gripping action scenes. However, the first time I saw the movie in theaters, I got dizzy watching some of the actions scenes. The Hunger Games stories in the novel have some violent action scenes,So to make the movies PG-13, instead seeing blood or gory images, the director would simply move the camera quickly just before an opponent would deliver the final blow. Its a great technique, it build tension, but also makes some people sick also. One my had even threw up in the bathroom after watching the movie.
Other by that, I highly recommend seeing the movie.
The Daily Create – Play with your food.
For this daily create, I decided to make a pasta necklace. This was actually more difficult to create something interesting with so I decided to put on my Spider-Man mask. “Why?” You may ask yourself…The world may never know.
The daily create for Street Fighter II.
For the daily create, we had to play old arcade games on a website. Scrolling down, I found an old game I use to play as kid….STREET FIGHTER II. I was so excited to play the game, however there was one problem. The computer I am currently using only has 1.2 GB of RAM (LONG STORY). So my memory couldn’t even support a game that was played over 24 years ago. Anyhow its kind of interesting though. I felt this “lag” was symbolic of how old and slow the games were in the 90’s compared to videos games now.
Anyway “enjoy” the video. It’s long. Its painfully slow. But its still Street Fighter.
You have been warned……
Originally, I didn’t give much thought copyright. Before I did any research, all I knew about copyright was the symbol; a c with a circle around it. Afterwards, I finally learned its a process when someone creates something and wants the government to protect their right to make a profit from it. Throughout history it made sense and benefited people form plagiarism. However, things get very complicated with the new digital age and creating mediums through the Internet.
Because according to some of the copyright laws, I am not allowed to make remixes of my favorite songs or use songs to make music videos. Its getting to the point it’s almost absurd. I agree if I use songs or movies in my mediums, I have make a note of who made the original content, because its disrespectful not to. However, to fine or even send people to jail because I remix one of my songs; it’s insane. You could also argue that, since I made a remix, isn’t the work technically originally made by me.?? Which leads to more questions with confusing answers.
Ultimately I feel that if there is a previous medium that anyone wants to modify, its important to either ask permission or at least let other people where you got the original source from. Especially if plan to make a profit from it. Even if you just want use a borrowed or altered medium to enrich or inform an audience, its best to credit the original creator.
That being said…I better start including including sources of my medium on this blog……
DS106 Wallpaper! – (4 Stars)
I created a DS106 wallpaper with a Noir theme design. First, I chose the background color to be black and white. Given that one of the themes in many Noir movies is the use of black and grey, I decided to make the background black and white and the font the opposite colors.
My inspiration for this picture actually came from a Scarface poster I seen many years ago. The black and white contrast show the elements of high’s and low’s for the Noir 106 class. I thought it would be a good concept.
I really had fun with this assignment. My goal for this wallpaper was to be simple yet visually stimulated.
My superpower would to be able to create fire…..
To be honest, I had several powers I wanted to have. However due software limitations, pyrokinesis was the easiest to produce visually. What I did was put on a glove, stood in front of a fireplace and took a picture. Then I used software similar to Photoshop to change the color to blue. And there you have it, I am firebending…….
